Le Scienze e la Grande Guerra

Box_GrandeGuerra

In the centenary year of the First World War, the program ‘Le Scienze e la Grande Guerra’ (Sciences and the Great War) proposes a scientific-historic survey aimed at providing an innovative contribution to the historiography of the Great War by means of an original investigation of as yet undervalued aspects of the relationship between science, industry and military structures.

Different issues have been faced during 2014-2017 and have to be addressed: the transformation of the international scientific community and Italy’s role in the inter-allied intellectual cooperation; the technical-scientific changes and the new organization of production that the agricultural world had to handle; the relationship of scientists with the war; the new technologies and the new organization in the field of communications.

The program is promoted by the National Academy of Sciences called of the XL in collaboration with the National Research Council, the Academy of Sciences of the Istituto di Bologna, the Italian Society of History of Science, the Center Pristem of Bocconi University, and the Group of Fundaments and History of Chemistry.
