The Emilia Chiancone Medal is given annually to one honoree in recognition of outstanding contributions to the biological sciences. Established in 2019, the Chiancone Medal has been named by the Accademia Nazionale delle Scienze detta dei XL to honor Emilia Chiancone, eminent scientist and sorely missed President of the Academy (2011-2018). Medal recipients must have significant contributed to any discipline related to the Biological sciences. “By dedicating her life to the Academy as Academic Secretary and later as President, de facto giving up the intense biological research program that made her internationally reknown, Emilia Chiancone has preserved the prestige that the XL Academy has acquired across more than two centuries of history. May the honoree of this first call – and may future honorees – not only keep her memory alive, but also further honor her through the betterment of Biology and of all italian science” Annibale Mottana, President, Accademia Nazionale delle Scienze detta dei XL.
