MEMORIES, IDEAS, PERSPECTIVES

Founded in 1782 with the aim of promoting the advancement of knowledge and the dissemination of Italian scientific culture, the Academy is the only scientific academy with a national character that has been in continuous operation since its founding. Today it is based in Rome at the Villa Torlonia.

The Academy operates through the expertise and synergistic action of its Members who ensure a permanent link with the university and research system, in Italy and abroad.

The activity of cultural elaboration in the scientific and historical-scientific fields is inextricably linked to the initiatives of preservation and enhancement of the library and documentary heritage.

The commitment to promote the most current scientific knowledge in a popular key is intended to make a contribution to the construction of an accomplished scientific citizenship, for the full inclusion of science in the common culture.

MEDALS

Periodically, the Academy awards Medals to scientists from different disciplinary fields who by works or discoveries have made contributions to the advancement of scientific knowledge.
