Annibale Mottana, the recently elected president of the “Accademia Nazionale delle Scienze detta dei XL”, the Italian National Academy of Sciences, will open the 237th Academic Year on May 23, 2019. The inauguration ceremony shall be dedicated to the memory of Professor Emilia Chiancone, the past president of the Academy who suddenly passed away on December 18, 2018. Hemeritus Professor Maurizio Brunori will describe the scientific life and the achievements of that eminent molecular biologist.
During the opening ceremony, the national medals for Mathematics and for Natural and Physical Sciences of the Academy, as well as the international Matteucci Medal for the year 2019 shall be handed over to the winners: Prof. Giovanni Alessandrini, Prof. Maria Luce Frezzotti and Prof. Federico Capasso.
