The Academy member Giorgio Parisi was elected President of the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei. Giorgio Parisi, one of the most authoritative physicists in the world, has focused his studies on particle physics, statistical mechanics, and complexity theory; he is known universally for the results obtained ln the field of disordered systems and spin glasses,  a class of statistical mechanics models that Parisi himself applied in optimization theory, biology and immunology.
