Physicist Luciano Maiani, professor emeritus at Sapienza University of Rome, received the prestigious ‘Bruno Pontecorvo’ 2013 International Award  for his scientific achievements. Luciano Maiani has served as President of the National Institute for Nuclear Physics, INFN, as Director General of CERN, and as President of the National Research Council, CNR. The Bruno Pontecorvo award is assigned every year by the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR), a prestigious international organization for research in nuclear and subnuclear physics that has its seat in the Russian Federation.
