Among the prestigious awards and medals assigned every year by the American Geophysical Union as recognition of significant contributions to the advancement of knowledge in Earth and space Sciences, the International Award 2018 was given to Academy member Giuliano Panza to acknowledge his significant and innovative studies on seismic waves and on the related ground acceleration and, in addition, his continuous involvement in education and communication.

Giuliano Panza is the first Academy member entrusted with this award of the largest international community of earth scientists.
