Wave phenomena are almost ubiquitous in nature: sea waves, electromagnetic waves, sound waves… they can be effectively modeled by nonlinear partial derivative equations, which succeed in describing their complexity and attempt to give a mathematically rigorous justification for phenomena such as turbulence or the formation of solitary or recursive waves. Keeping waves in water as the main reference, an overview of the main successes of this paradigm as well as the many open questions will be given. In particular, we will focus on a natural but very sensitive question, namely whether typical behavior can be identified for such waves, even if only for small and very regular initial data.
The conference will be held on the Zoom platform on Thursday, September 26th, 2024 at 11 A.M.
