The Academy is pleased to welcome Prof. Jocelyn Bell Burnell in Rome

The meeting organized by the Academy in honor of Prof. Jocelyn Bell Burnell, Lighthouses in the Universe: celebrating Jocelyn Bell’s discovery of the Pulsars, will be held on May 31, 2023. Prof. Jocelyn Bell Burnell, who will take part in the meeting with a lecture of her own, is a professor at the University of Oxford and the University of Dundee, awarded the Matteucci Medal in 2022 for her many fundamental contributions to modern astrophysics, and in particular for the discovery of the pulsar. She was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 1999 and Dame (DBE) in 2007, a Fellow of the Royal Society in 2003, President of the Royal Astronomical Society (2002-04), and in 2008 was elected to a two-year term as President of the Institute of Physics. In 2021 she was awarded the Copley Medal.

Marco Tavani, president of INAF and Academician of the XL ; Elisabetta Strickland, Tor Vergata University; Andrea Possenti, Cagliari Astronomical Observatory; Niccolò Bucciantini, Arcetri Observatory; and Paolo de Bernardis, Sapienza University of Rome and Academician of the XL will participate in the meeting.
