Symposium ‘The astrochemical observatory: focus on chiral molecules'[:]

The Symposium ‘Astrochemical observatory: focus on chiral molecules’ will be held in Rome on March 22-23 in the Academic Library. The initiative can be framed in the context of a new interdisciplinary research field, astrochemistry, which makes use of recent astronomical and radio-astronomical observations, space mission data collections, laboratory observations, theoretical and computational modeling. Several organic molecules, even complex ones, have been already identified in space and their number is increasing continuously. In particular, the discovery of propylene oxide in the interstellar medium has raised special interest as this molecule can be considered a prototype for studies aiming at assessing the role of chirality in chemistry and biophysics, in the origin and evolution of life, as well as in asymmetric synthesis and chiral recognition, two key aspects of pharmaceutics and materials science.

The Symposium will will look into these different aspects.
