The National Academy of Sciences has a large collection of historical records. The most consistent is the Academy Archive, which collects historical material related to the Academy’s institutional, administrative and scientific activities from 1764 to 2002.
The Academy, in the course of its history, has also collected personal records of members. This collection of personal records was made possible by the donations from scientists that were Academy members or by their family. The Academy is committed to safeguarding these documents that are of great historical value.
The Academy also possesses many documents on microfilms: Sources for the History of Quantum Physics and Fabbroni Papers.
The Academy’s inventory is available in a printed as well as web-based version.
Since 2002 the Academy is part of a project entitled “Archives of the 1900’s – memoirs on-line”. It was established in 1991 by the Consorzio BAICR Sistema Cultura, and received great support from Italian cultural institutes. The project is aimed at characterizing and valorizing sources on the history of the 1900’s. The results of this project may be seen in a database accessible through internet. |
