The awards goes to an author who has published important work in Italy and abroad in the field of Chemistry. Established in honour of Emanuele Paternò, the medal commemorates his great contribution in the advancement of science and in the chemical industry. Since 1986 the Prize is administered by the Italian Society of Chemistry.
