The Academy Library, like the history of the “Italian Society”, established in Verona in 1782 with the idea of “creating an Academy with Italian scholars”, has faced difficult times. The Academy’s library had the intent of publishing proceeding or accounts by eminent scientists of that period.
Given the itinerant nature of the Society, since its establishment, the library did not have stable headquarters but, was destined to follow the frequent geographical shifts of the Society.
Initially, the library contained a scientific, historic and archivist patrimony collected by A.M. Lorgna, founder of the Society, during his presidency. Later the library’s patrimony would grow thanks to donations by Members. Many manuscripts, epistolary, volumes were added to the collection, also through an exchange with other Italian and foreign Academies.
In the last few years the Library’s inventory has in fact increased greatly. Today there are about twenty thousand volumes that include monographs, and a series of accounts from prestigious Institutes (The National Academy of Sciences in Turin, Naples, Padova, The Academy of Lincei, Gioenia, Lucchese, Ligure, as well as the Academy of France, Sweden, Petersburg, and many others). The library also possesses many national and international reviews and periodicals.
